I was running a bit late to this concert as I was
invited to go at the last minute.
I thought it would be okay because no one ever starts on time... WRONG!
These guys don't monkey around with their shows.
As I was walking in at the top of the hour, they were at the top of
their song list! I was told they were filming the concert for a
DVD, so I guess they needed to be prompt.
A DVD was released in November of that year and is now out of print. However, it still seems to be readily available through the second-hand market. After nearly 40 years, this is the only Monkees concert to be professionally filmed in its entirety. Unfortunately, the DVD release is a one-hour edited version. A limited DVD was released in 2004 that contained the full concert, but sold out very quickly. The concert was great and the crowd's energy was
very high. I was bouncing up and down the entire time. We
got three out of four Monkees for this concert -- Davy Jones ; Micky Dolenz
and Peter Tork. To date, this was Peter Tork's last concert. At the time, the venue was called the Sun Theatre. It has since changed its name to The Grove of Anaheim.
