KC and the Sunshine Band: The Very Best Of

CD Release Date: 1998

Since the band hasn’t had an official release in recent years, they  were not promoting a particular album for this concert.  I chose the “Very Best of” CD for this page because it seems to best represent the songs that I heard and the artwork reminds me of the fireworks just prior to their performance.  To date, the band’s last CD was released in 2003 “Get Down Tonight” Greatest Hits Live.”

This was my first time to see KC and the Sunshine Band and it was the first time I'd been to the Del Mar Fair.  It was also the Fourth of July and I was in good company with Zack, Geri and John.  All of these things made this a very special event.

The last time I had been to a concert on the Fourth of July was 25 years ago when I saw Tanya Tucker at Knott's Berry Farm on July 4, 1981.

The fair entrance was packed with food vendors.   We didn't get too far for the first hour.  Some of the food was great and some was just plain gross.  After gawking at the incredibly disgusting Deep Fried Twinkies, we made our way through some of the carnival rides and exhibits, then over to the Harrah's Grandstand Stage to take a look at our seats.

Our box section wasn't too close to the stage, but it was nice to sit down for awhile.  It did, however, provide an excellent view for the fireworks which started about 9:00 PM.  We were all very impressed with the display!

When KC made his appearance on stage, we quickly realized how far away we really were.  Geri and I made a dash for the “standing only” section in front of the stage and never made it back to our seats.  Did I emphasize “standing?”  How can anyone stand at a KC and the Sunshine Band concert?  Geri and I had our boogie shoes on had we shake shake shaked our booty right until the final note of the encore.

They performed many of their hits including:

(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty
Boogie Shoes
Get Down Tonight
Give It Up
I’m Your Boogie Man
Keep It Comin’ Love
Please Don’t Go
That’s The Way I Like It
