FEATURED ALBUM: Business As Usual

Original Release Date: 1981

This was my first musical moment of the year and my regular concert companions Mark and Zack were in tow.  Collin Hay, the lead singer and song writer of Men at Work, was the front man for his own act this night.  Hay was the opening artist to perform for this "Acoustic Duo Evening" and was an instant hit with his solo work, despite the lack of other "men at work."  We had no idea Hay would be this entertaining.  He tore up the crowd with his wit and humor between songs.  I wasn't sure if his act was strictly musical or standup.  Either way, it seemed as though everyone was thoroughly entertained.

Hay's guitar and vocals were outstanding and I enjoyed the addition of his wife who joined for backing vocals and “visuals” later in the show.  It was a tuff act to follow for Howard Jones who filled the second part of the night.  I was more familiar with his music and he did a great job of entertaining us with some wit and humor too.   In addition to a side-kick guitarist, Howard accompanied himself on the keyboard.  This was a great evening and well worth more than the $40 ticket price.
