Arc de Triomphe

Constructed in 1806 and completed in 1836, this monument sits in the middle of a traffic circle that connects twelve streets.  One of them being Avenue Des Champs-Elysees that leads to the Louvre.  I took this photo while I was on the top of the Eiffel Tower.  (Click on the photo for a larger image.)

You don't need to run across traffic to get a closer look.  There is an underground entrance to the monument.

There is a small museum and gift shop at the top.  However, the way up is by stairs.  I counted 276.  I felt I was prepared from running all over London, but I was a bit heated by the time I got to the top.

This large head was one of the items in the museum.  It's about five feet tall.

Hers's a view through the a side opening of the arc.
